Meeting Minutes for Wednesday December 13th, 2010 In
attendance: Josh Birchhill (Alternative Opportunities), Maria Runyan (At Home Living), Melissa Winkler (TBI Residential
and Community Services), Dianne Naus (MN Disability Law Center), Kim Dirkes (SLC), David Birkhofer (Westview), Mary Giese
(Epilepsy Foundation), Michelle Ropponen (Touching Hearts at Home) Marcia Ryss (SLC), Cheryl Lowney (Alternative Opportunities,
Inc.), Kathy Nesheim-Larson (REM-The Mentor Network), and Janice Webster (BIA of MN) 12-1:30pm PABIR meeting - Introductions
and brief agency update
- o Kathy Nesholm-Larson - Director of REM Mentor Network. REM recently acquired Woodhill
homes AFC program.
- o Mary Giese requested everyone to "save the date" for the Epilepsy conference to be
held on July 21st, 2011 in Duluth, MN.
- o Michelle Roppenen with Touching Hearts at Home will be hosting
a conference for social workers. Anyone interested in participating please contact Michelle @ mropponen@touchinghearts.com
- o At Home Living - Maria Runyan - opened BRIDGES to Success adult day program located on Haines Rd. in Duluth.
Open house was held on Nov 5th. Maria does have brochures available regarding the BRIDGES to Success adult
day program.
- o Janice Webster - BIA of MN- currently focusing on fall prevention and awareness of winter safety and
prevention of falls. BIA is currently undergoing a CRANE STROM project and asking for individuals to create their own origami
cranes and send them to the BIA. Their goal is to collect 100,000 cranes, one for every Minnesotan with a brain injury. Instruction
on making cranes can be found on the BIA of MN website http://www.braininjurymn.org/

- o Dianne Naus and Roberta Cich have been elected and accepted the positions of PABIR
co-chair to begin their term in 2011. Congratulations Dianne and Roberta, Thank you!

Veterans Adult Foster Care - Training via video conference from Aging and Adult Services Division with DHS on December
16th, 2010 at 1:30pm @ St. Louis County Government Center. This will be a panel presentation describing what AFC

- o Meeting schedule for 2011 - First
Tuesday of every even numbered month
- o PABIR Sponsored Trainings - The group discussed what direction PABIR
should take in 2011 regarding continuing to provide consumer and professional trainings. A sign-up sheet for individuals able
to be part of the committee for planning a consumer conference was passed around at the meeting.
- o Co-chair transition
meeting - Maria and Josh will meet with Roberta and Diane on Jan 18th @ 11am @ U.S. Bank to make changes to
the PABIR account, then join for lunch to pass off other critical documents to the newly elected co-chairs.
